U.V. Permeable Resin Bound Drives, Patios, Paths, Hard Standings
This is the type usually used for driveways. It involves coating the solids in polyurethane resin. The solids vary from aggregate, crushed marble, recycled plastic and many other types. The mixture lays on a firm base and provides a smooth upper surface.
The resin–bound mixture provides a rainwater permeable layer so puddles don’t form and drainage isn’t a problem as long as the sub- structure is solid and has falls.. The thickness of the layer varies depending on the size of aggregate, the type of stone used and whether you’re making a driveway is normally 18mm minimum or patio is normally 15mm minimum etc.
The resin covers all the solids, so there’s no chance of anything working loose. The sand that is included in the mix increases the structural strength of the resin surface and also provides anti-slip properties. Where extra grip is required, a light layer of glass grit can be sprinkled on top of the surface before the resin has cured..
Resin Bound is a permeable, SuDS compliant system when laid over a permeable substrate. This often eliminates the need to obtain planning permission and that it is an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional surfacing solutions.
UV Stability is vital. In order to retain the colour of the chosen Resin Bound finish, the system has been formulated to ensure that it is fully UV Stable. Non or partial UV Stable alternatives will discolour within weeks of being installed, creating a yellowing and patchy effect where there are shaded areas.
Resin Bound is extremely low maintenance. Rain water will keep it generally clean and a light pressure wash will remove any build up of algae or dirt contamination.
